OUR STORY: A COOKIE RECIPE
FROM ROMEO'S PERSPECTIVE
I enjoy baking. Yes, baking. I grew up making food with my family, and sharing it with our loved ones. It was our form of showing our love for others. One night, I stumbled across my late aunt's cookie recipe. Chocolate chip cookies, to be specific. At that moment, I immediately felt nostalgia and vividly remembered the white styrofoam containers she'd give me from time to time. Inside, no more than five or six perfectly made chocolate chip cookies. I had to try and make that recipe to relive those moments.
Fast forward to 2015. By that time, I had made hundreds of these cookies to bring to work, share as gifts, and well, just to enjoy. By that time, my friend Michael, asked me if I could make those same cookies for his holiday party at work. I thought nothing of it; I'd make three dozen cookies and that's that. But, my friend made a comment I'd remember forever. He said, "If this girl at my work likes the cookies, then they're good. She went to LeCordon Bleu." Jokingly, I replied, "Is she single?" Of course I made the cookies, but that was that. So I thought.
Later that evening, my friend said, "Audrey loved the cookies!" At that point, I had to find out who this girl was. Then, weeks later, for the next holiday party, I made her a special jar of cookies. The jar had her name on it with a bow and everything. She messaged me on social media that night, we exchanged phone numbers, and there it started.
Our first dates involved watching movies, attending concerts, trying out new restaurants and bars, and visiting art installations. It felt so natural.
7 years passed by, hundreds of meals (including the cookies) were made, thousands of memories were formed, and on January 13, 2022 I proposed in Carmel Valley.
Today, Michael is the best man, I get to marry my best friend, and it all started with a cookie recipe.
FROM AUDREY'S PERSPECTIVE
Yes! I did go to Le Cordon Blue many years ago. The story starts off with me working at a restaurant with Romeo's best man, Michael. Micheal had brought cookies to our annual Christmas party and the whole kitchen got first dibs. I thought "oh it's just cookies, but such a nice gesture to everyone". I take a bite of this infamous cookie and well let's put it this way: they are the best cookies I've ever had til this day.
The new year rolled around and Micheal came to work with a new batch of cookies to my surprise, one of those jars was specially made for me. All of my co-workers were upset as to why I got a special jar and they didn't. I looked at the tag and it said it was from Romeo, so, I had to investigate who this "Romeo" was. To my luck, he provided his Instagram handle and I turned into a modern-day Sherlock Holmes. I looked through his Instagram pictures to see who he was and what he looked like. I then DM'ed him a thank you for the cookies and we exchanged phone numbers.
I waited to get home to eat the cookies and left the jar in my kitchen so my family could have some of the cookies. Days later, my mom asks me, "who gave you these... your boyfriend?" and I say "no, it was from one of my co-worker's friends that makes cookies". I never thought anything of that comment. Romeo and I continued to conversate through text for the next couple of months. One day we gave in and decided to meet up in real life to watch a movie. The day went pretty well as if I knew him for years.
The years go by and Romeo and I have been together for two years at this point. I was talking to my sister and my nieces about Romeo and my sister says something along the lines of Romeo being the person I was going to marry. Fast forward to January 13, 2022, Romeo FINALLY proposes, after many one-sided arguments about it. I get to marry my Romero.
